This is my first blog post, and I thought it would be fitting to write about something I’ve invested a considerable amount of time in - my home media server. Setting up my server was a complex and lengthy process, so if you’re struggling with your own, don’t worry, it’s perfectly normal.

Let’s begin by discussing the operating system, but before that, let me give a disclaimer. This may not be the best or easiest way to set up a server, but it’s the method I used, and it worked for me. I’m satisfied with how my server is configured, and I find it easy to add new features to it.

Let’s move on to the operating system. I opted to use Proxmox for my setup as it allows for quick VM and container creation for new websites and software on the server. If you have only one drive for the OS, you can download and install Proxmox using its installer ISO. However, if you plan to use multiple drives and set up a RAID, you’ll need to first install Debian and then Proxmox on top of it, as Proxmox doesn’t offer RAID setup options during installation.
